Getting Started

The purpose of compiling these annals has been simply to preserve them for posterity.

However humble their careers, the history of one’s ancestry will always prove of interest, though experience proves that few persons are willing to devote time necessary to collect such data. I am one of those people, however, the bug didn’t hit me until later in life and I have a lot of catching up to do

My research so far has been for my ancestors, Goode, Bowman, Abbott, Reagan and Key. the Bowman Family that came from Virginia and settled in Knox County, TN {I have not at this time researched there life in Virginia

In general there seems little doubt that the Bowmans of Virginia and other states to the south  and west are of common stock. It is family tradition that the earliest ancestor was a ship carpenter who came with the first colonist to Jamestown from London, but this has neither been authenticated or disproved.

The Goodes and the Keys both came from England and settled in Virginia and North Carolina and on then to Georgia.

The Abbotts came from  England settled in Maryland and then on to Sevier County, Tennessee.

The Reagans were from Ireland and made their way to Sevier County, Tennessee and were very instrumental in the founding of Gatlinburg

There is so much that I don’t know because records have been destroyed by fire especially in the south. But I plan to share what I do know and the things I find in the future. It is a record of my research and is to be shared with anyone who has a desire to know more about the ones who came before us and help settle this great land we live in.
